About Us
United Way of Western Nebraska works to unite people and resources of Western Nebraska to build a stronger, healthier and more compassionate community. Founded in 1945, United Way is a local non-profit organization that raises money for non-profits that are serving families in our area that may be struggling to meet basic needs. United Way of Western Nebraska also focuses on community impact work including homelessness, homelessness prevention and food insecurity.
United Way raises funds through the annual campaign and to support local non-profit partner agencies and provide community impact initiatives in our service area. The non-profit United Way partner agencies are selected through a funds allocation process each year. The funds distribution committee is comprised of local citizens to determine which agencies receive funding and at what level. Community Impact initiatives are focused on filling gaps in services in the community. Community impact initiatives include the annual Day of Caring meal packaging event held in October where 75,000 meals are packaged for the community, Stuff the Bus school supply drive, Homelessness Prevention through the Continuum of Care and FamilyWize discount prescription cards.
United Way is a connector of resources. United Way connects people to resources they need. United Way funds the programs that provide the services to those people. United Way is a fundraiser for the organization that help the families that are struggling in our community.
