Paleontology Camp Offered This Summer
If you know a child who loves science, fossils and the great outdoors, “Paleontology: Can You Dig It?” might be the perfect opportunity! This summer science day camp will be held June 20 through June 24, and is presented by Children and Nature in Our Parks (CNP), a partnership organization that works towards getting more kids outside into nature and surrounding parks. Registration deadline is May 20.
This camp is a continuation of the annual High Plains Science Adventures Camps offered by CNP, with a focus on paleontology of Nebraska. The camp will allow the students to take a journey through time to learn about mammoths, fossils and prehistoric beasts that once roamed Nebraska. Activities will include guided hikes, field trips to surrounding parks in the panhandle, real fossil digs with professional Paleontologists, guest speakers, and an overnight trip to Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. The camp is geared towards children ages 9-12, and costs $175 per child. Scholarships are available for children qualifying for free-reduced lunches through their schools.
The camp will run daily from 8am – 4pm, Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22. Thursday, June 23, will be from 8 am – overnight and dismissing at 2 pm Friday. A parents’ program will be presented at 1 pm on Friday. To receive a registration packet for HPSA camp, please email Amber Schiltz at education@riversidediscoverycenter.org, or call 402-310-6137.
