The Candy Corn Grab Bicycle Scavenger Hunt will roll out for a second year on Oct. 29. The purpose of this casual bicycle ride, which was dreamed up by members of the Western Nebraska Bicycling Club, is to have an excuse to burn off some Halloween candy calories while having a little fun. Riders must be in teams of two to four members. The ride will begin in the parking lot of The Monument Grill, 2550 Clubhouse Drive, at 11 a.m. Team members will receive instructions for locations to “scavenge,” and they must use a digital or phone camera to photograph themselves as a group at each location. All team members must return to Monument Grill by 1 p.m. Participants may purchase lunch on their own while the scavenger hunt points are tallied. Points are awarded for the number of locations photographed, and bonus points are awarded for rare locations, submitting photos via text message, funny pictures, and for teams wearing costumes. Team members who fail to operate their bicycles safely (such as by failing to wear a helmet or by breaking traffic rules) will disqualify their team. The top-scoring teams will receive prizes from Sonny’s Bike Shop. There is no fee to participate. Riders will roll rain or shine, but ice or snow on the roads will cancel the event.
