This free community event helps residents safely dispose of hazardous materials while celebrating ways to protect our environment.\n\n\n\nEarth Day Activities\n\nEnjoy a variety of educational activities and community resources:\n\n  Free Tree Giveaway provided by the North Platte Natural Resources District (limited supply)\n\n  Document Shredding hosted by Platte Valley Bank\n\n(Personal documents only. Please remove metal fasteners\, 3-ring binders\, and spiral notebooks.)\n\n  Well Water Testing provided by the Scottsbluff High School FFA Chapter\n\n(Bring a small container of well water labeled with your last name to test for nitrates.)\n\n  Gering Public Library Information Booth\n\n  City of Gering Landfill Used Oil Collection\n\n  City of Scottsbluff Residential Stormwater Management Information\n\n\n\nHousehold Hazardous Waste Collection\n\nSafely dispose of the following household items:\n\n  Flammable liquids (gasoline\, kerosene\, paint thinners\, antifreeze)\n\n  Household\, lawn\, garden\, and pool chemicals\n\n  Mercury (liquid mercury\, thermometers\, switches/relays)\n\n  Stains & varnishes (NO paint accepted)\n\n  Fluorescent light bulbs\n\n  Auto batteries\n\n  Propane cylinders\n\n\n\nDonations are appreciated to help offset event costs.\n\nThe estimated cost for the 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Collection is $47\,771.69\, so community donations help make this event possible.\n\n\n\nImportant Event Guidelines\n\nThis collection event is for residential materials only.\n\nPlease note:\n\n  No trailer loads\n\n  No commercial products\n\n  No tires\n\n  No pharmaceuticals\n\n  No electronics\n\n  No household batteries\n\n  No paint\n\n  No appliances or construction waste\n\n\n\nYear-Round Disposal Options\n\n  City of Scottsbluff Environmental Services accepts electronics\, household batteries\, and paint (in original containers) during business hours year-round.\n\nBattery terminals must be taped.\n\n  City of Gering Landfill accepts tires (for a fee) during business hours year-round.\n\n\n\nIf you have questions about what items are accepted\, feel free to contact Keep Scottsbluff Gering Beautiful.
